In what proved to be a dramatic finish to the season, Tim's play in the later months proved stellar as he caught then leader Matt Yates. While Matt played well all season, in the end Tim won the WGL's first ever season playoff. Kudos to Matt on a well played season, and congrats to the 3-time WGL Champion, Tim Will.
In a season that saw the most points in WGL history, Kevin Murphy held the season lead for many consecutive weeks. As the season came to a close, a surging Joe Del Vecchio closed Murphy's large lead, giving us plenty of drama down the stretch. In the end, Murphy held on by just one season point, securing the 2024 Season and forever adding his name to WGL history and the Waterside Cup!
Consistency and dedication were the hallmarks of the 2023 season for Tim Will. With the highest quota in the league, he played really good golf all year long, especially in the second half of the season. This victory makes him a two-time WGL Champ ... Congratulations Mr. Tim Will, 2023 WGL Champion!
2022 offered more season points than ever before, and it was a race to the finish! In the end, it all came down to the final tournament to decide who would win the Waterside Cup! And, moreover, it came down to just a few putts in that last group. Ian Carman’s chip-in birdie on #2, which gave him a skin, was the icing on the cake he needed to fend off a charging CJ Norfolk to become the 2022 WGL Champion! Ian played some great - and consistent - golf this season, and held the season points lead for a long time. He now adds his name to the prestigious prize … congrats Ian!
In our fullest season to date (no pandemic disruptions, and a full slate of events), 2021 saw even more growth in the WGL. Additionally, 2021 marked another shift in the WGL legacy, establishing charitable landmarks and partnerships along the way. With a full season, and many points up for grabs, there were a lot of golfers within reach of the cup as we approached the end of the season. But, in the end, with consistent play and A LOT of skins, Tim Will emerged victorious to claim the title of 2021 WGL Champion ... adding his name to the prestigious Waterside Cup!
The 2020 Season was a year of explosive growth in the WGL. As such, the WGL Board of Directors made several shifts to improve the league for years to come. The most prominent shift was the installation of scoring and tracking software for weekly matches. With this new technology, a season points race could be established, and thus, the Waterside Cup would become the WGL Champions Perpetual Trophy.
After a full season of events, Cody Carpenter finished the season on top ... adding his name to the Waterside Cup!
As the 2019 season drew to a close, the WGL Board decided to award "captain" titles to the top money leaders that would be competing in the Waterside Cup tournament. Cody Carpenter vs. Erich Hynech would be the match up, and teams would be decided by draft following the final Thursday night of the season. Using the 2018 event as a guide, Carpenter and Hyneck sent players out in a Ryder Cup style event, for what turned into a great day of golf. The matches were very even and competition fierce, but in the end, Team Hyneck emerged victorious, and Erich Hyneck added his name to the captain's trophy.
Although losing the team event, Carpenter did take the title of 2019 WGL Champion (the individual season long race).
As our first year came to a close, WGL founder, Tim Hill, planned an event that would pit neighbor against neighbor. With little stats to draw from in the first season, Hill challenged the season money leader, Chris Harris, to a team event that would later become known as the Waterside Cup. Hill and Harris drafted teams that would compete in partner match play events of Singles, Alternate Shot and Captain's Choice. In the end, Hill took the title and placed his name on the Captain's Trophy!
